Moving Players and Locking Tables
Swap players by drag and drop, lock pairings, keep a player or team on the same table, pair players by hand and compact empty tables.
After you click Pair Players, you can rearrange the pairings by hand before anyone sees them: swap players, keep a table as it is when you re-pair, keep a player on the same table every round, pair two people yourself, and tidy up the table numbers after drops. All of this happens on Game Day > Pairings.
These tools work while the round is in the pairing stage, before you click Publish Pairings. If you have already published, click Unlock Pairings first.
Move players by drag and drop
- Grab the handle (the six dots) on the left of a player's card.
- Drop them on another player to swap the two.
- Or drop them on an empty seat (Drop here) or a BYE (Drop a player here) to move them there.
On a phone, press and hold the handle for a moment, then drag. In doubles, dragging a player moves the whole pair.
You cannot drag a player onto or off a locked table. Unlock it first.
Keep a pairing when you re-pair
Lock a table when you want those two players kept together, for example a grudge match you arranged on the day.
- Hover over the vs between the two players. It turns into a lock icon.
- Click it (Lock this pairing). The table gets an amber outline and the round bar shows how many tables are locked, for example 2 locked.
When you click Re-pair Players, locked tables stay exactly as they are and everyone else is paired around them. Click the lock again (Unlock this pairing) to release it. Clear all pairings removes locked tables too.
A pairing lock only lasts for the round you set it in. Locking and unlocking tables needs a computer or a tablet held sideways. On a phone you see the lock icon but cannot change it.
Keep a player on the same table every round
Use this for a player who needs a particular table all event: wheelchair access, a seat near the door, a table with the terrain they need, or the table you are streaming from.
- Drag the player onto the table you want, so they are already sitting there.
- Click the ... menu on the player's card.
- Choose Lock to table 4 (the number is the table they are on).
Their card shows a small lock (hover over it to see Locked to table 4) and the round bar shows, for example, 1 table-locked.
From then on, every time you pair, this round and every round after, the player and their opponent are put on that table. Their opponent is still chosen by the normal pairing rules. The lock stays until you open the same menu and choose Unlock from this table.
Give each locked player their own table. If two locked players are drawn against each other they can only sit at one of their tables, so check the pairings after each Pair Players.
Locking a player to a table is for singles events. In a teams event, lock the team to its tables instead (see below).
Teams events: lock matchups and feature tables
In a teams event you arrange whole teams before captains pick their players:
- Drag a team onto another team to swap their opponents. Locked matchups and BYEs cannot be moved.
- Click the lock between two teams (Lock this matchup) to keep them together when you re-pair.
- Open the ... menu on a team and choose Lock to tables T1–2 to keep that team on the same block of tables every round, for example a feature table. Choose Unlock from tables to release it.
See Running Teams Rounds with Captains for the rest of a teams round.
Pair two players yourself
- Click Add Match. On a phone it is in the ... menu next to the round picker.
- Choose Player 1. Only players who are not already at a table are listed.
- Choose Player 2, or leave it empty to give Player 1 a BYE.
- Click Add Match.
The new match takes an empty table if there is one, otherwise the next table number. It is locked, so Re-pair Players will not break it up. Unlock it if you want it included next time you re-pair.
In doubles and teams events you choose two teams instead of two players.
Add Match also works while a round is in play, for example to seat a late arrival against another late arrival.
Take a player out of one match
Use this when you need a player somewhere else but they are still playing in the event.
- Click the ... menu on the player's card.
- Choose Remove from this match only.
Their opponent stays at the table with an open seat, shown as a BYE. The removed player is now unpaired. Seat them again by dragging them into an open seat or with Add Match.
This only works before you publish. If a player has left the event, use Drop from tournament from the same menu instead (see Running Game Day: Pairings and Players).
Empty tables and table numbers
When both players on a table are dropped, the table stays in the list as Empty Table with a Reserved badge. Keeping it means nobody else's table number moves. You have three choices:
- Fill it: drag a player in, or use Add Match, which fills empty tables first.
- Delete it: open the table's ... menu and choose Delete extra empty table slot.
- Close the gap: compact the tables.
Compact the table numbers
If the empty table is not the last table, a Compact empty tables? window opens after the drop or delete.
- Compact empty tables deletes the empty table and moves every table after it down by one. Players locked to a table that moves are locked to its new number.
- Keep as is leaves every table number where it is.
Players on the tables that moved are told their new table when you publish the pairings.
Compacting does not work while pairings are published. To compact then:
- Click Unlock Pairings.
- Open the empty table's ... menu and choose Delete extra empty table slot.
- In Compact empty tables?, click Compact empty tables.
- Click Publish Pairings.
