Fixing Mistakes on Game Day

Which fix to use for a wrong pairing, a wrong score, a round started too early or a mistake found after the tournament is complete.

Wrong score, wrong pairing, round started too early, results published with a typo in them: each has its own fix on the dashboard. Which one you use depends on how far the event has got. All of them are on Game Day > Pairings or in the arrow menu at the top right of the status bar.

Pick the right fix

  • Pairings are wrong and you have not published them: drag players around or click Re-pair Players. See Running Game Day: Pairings and Players.
  • Pairings are wrong and already published: Unlock Pairings.
  • You started the round too early: Reopen Pairings.
  • A score is wrong in the round being played: open the table and change it.
  • A score is wrong in a round you have completed: Unlock in that table's score window.
  • You changed your scoring setup after games were scored: Rescore.
  • A round has to be played again from scratch: Reset Round Data.
  • You spot the mistake after clicking Complete Tournament: Reopen Tournament.

Change published pairings

Use this after Publish Pairings and before Start Round.

  1. Pick the round in the round picker.
  2. Click Unlock Pairings.
  3. Make your changes: drag players, use Add Match, or click Re-pair Players.
  4. Click Publish Pairings again.

While the pairings are unlocked, players stop seeing them in the Battle Hub and they come off the Battle Board. When you publish again, only the players whose table or opponent changed get a new email and push notification.

In a teams event the same button is called Reopen Matchups or Recall from Captains. See Running Teams Rounds with Captains.

Take back a round you started too early

While a round is Active, click Reopen Pairings. The round goes back to pairing, the round timer goes back to zero, and players stop seeing the pairings until you publish them again.

This only works while no table has been fully scored. Once one has, use the score fixes below instead.

Fix a score in the round being played

  1. Click Score or Scored on the table.
  2. Open the section that is wrong, such as Game Result, change it and click Save.
  3. Click Update Score.

Your score replaces whatever the players submitted.

To wipe a table and let the players enter it again, open the table's ... menu and choose Reset score, or click Reset Match in the score window. This clears the battle result, soft scores and any votes for that table.

Fix a score after the round is complete

A completed round's scores are read-only until you unlock them.

  1. Pick the completed round in the round picker.
  2. Click Scored on the table.
  3. Open the section that is wrong, for example Game Result.
  4. In the This round is complete. box, click Unlock.
  5. Correct the score and click Save.
  6. Click Update Score.

Standings recalculate straight away and the Battle Board picks up the new score. Pairings you have already made for later rounds stay as they are, even if the corrected result would have paired people differently. Nobody is emailed about the change.

Reopen a completed round

Click Reopen Round on a completed round to put it back in play. All its scores are kept. You need this if you want to clear a table with Reset score, or let players submit again in the Battle Hub.

When you have finished, click Complete Round 2 (the number matches the round) again. Standings are recalculated and, if Public live pairings is on, followers get the round standings email again.

Reopen a round before you pair the next one. If the next round is already paired, its pairings were made from the old results.

Recalculate after changing your scoring setup

If you change battle points, scenario objectives or other scoring settings after games have been scored, the scores already in are still worked out the old way. Rescore fixes that.

  1. Click Rescore at the right of the round bar. On a phone it is in the ... menu next to the round picker.
  2. In Recalculate All Scores?, click Recalculate Scores.

Every scored match in every round is worked out again from the scores that were entered, using your current scoring setup. Standings and awards update. Pairings do not change.

Rescore is hidden once the tournament is complete. Reopen the tournament first.

Play a round again from scratch

Reset Round Data deletes pairings and scores. It cannot be undone, so use it only when a round has to be replayed or you are clearing out a test run.

  1. Click the arrow menu at the top right of the status bar, next to Battle Board.
  2. Choose Reset Round Data.
  3. Under Reset to, pick the round you want to go back to. It starts on your last round.
  4. Read the Will be reset box.
  5. Click Reset, then click Click again to confirm.

What each choice does:

  • Round 3 (or any round): that round keeps its pairings but every score in it is cleared, and it goes back to Active so every table can be scored again. All later rounds lose their pairings and scores.
  • Setup (Clean Slate): every pairing and score in the event is deleted and every round goes back to Pending.

Every reset also clears final standings and awards, and hides results if you had revealed them. If you have soft score categories, soft scores are cleared too. Your scenarios and round schedule are kept.

Players see the deleted rounds disappear from the Battle Hub. The round you reset to shows as in play with no scores, so players can submit again.

Reset Round Data also works on a completed tournament. It takes the event out of its completed state.

Fix something after Complete Tournament

  1. Click the arrow menu at the top right of the status bar.
  2. Choose Reopen Tournament.
  3. Make your fix: unlock and correct a score, click Rescore, or anything else above.
  4. If you want players to see the final results before they are published, click Reveal Results to Players & Battle Board on the Pairings tab.
  5. Click Complete Tournament again. If you skipped step 4 you will see Results Not Revealed Yet. Click Complete Anyway.

Reopening takes the event back to Published and hides the results from players and the Battle Board until you complete it again. Completing it again recalculates standings, awards and ranking points, and sends the final results email to players and followers a second time (unless Player notifications enabled is off in Setup > Communications).

Penalties and bonuses can be changed without reopening. See Penalties and Bonuses.
