Getting Started with Battle Builder

Battle Builder is the army list builder for Warhammer: The Old World, built into Old World Rankings. It checks your list as you build it, lets you read any rule without leaving the page, and submits straight to an event you are registered for.

Where to find it

• On the web - go to oldworldrankings.com/builder, or open Battle Builder from your profile menu.
• In the OWR app - tap Builder in the bottom tab bar.

You need to be signed in to your OWR account. Your lists sync between web, iPhone and Android, so a list you start on your phone is on your desktop when you get home.

Create your first list

From your library, choose Create List. The dialog asks for:

• List name - anything you like. You can rename it later.
• Faction - all 18 Old World factions plus the 21 Armies of Infamy.
• Army type - Grand Army, or an Army of Infamy where the faction has one.
• Points - type a value or use the preset buttons.
• Game format - the comp your event runs. See Army Comps and Game Formats.
• Rules version - defaults to the current FAQ and Errata. Pin an older version if your event runs one.
• Narrative mode - build freely with list restrictions switched off.

Choosing a game format changes the points presets to match. Battle March, for example, offers 400, 500, 600 and 750 points.

Building the list

Each army category shows its cap and its current spend, so you can see at a glance where your points are going. Use Add unit in a category to open the picker, then choose the unit's options, weapons, armour, mounts and magic items.

Validation as you go

A panel at the top of the list tracks everything that is wrong or worth knowing:

• Errors stop the list being legal, for example a single character over the points cap.
• Warnings flag things you still need to do, such as taking a General or meeting a Core minimum.

Tap any of them to jump straight to the unit that caused it. As you fix each one it clears, and the list is legal when the panel is empty.

Reading the rules

Special rules, magic items, troop types and lores are all tappable. Open one and the rules text appears inline, pulled from the game data, and you can keep tapping through to related terms and step back. Stat lines resolve by phase, so you can see what a unit actually does on the charge or in a later combat round.

Your library

The library lists everything you have built, with a count of your lists and factions and your average points. It also shows any upcoming events you are registered for, with the army list deadline, so you know what still needs submitting.

Group lists into folders, give the folders colours, and rate a list so you can tell your gaming-night list from the one you are taking to a GT.

While Battle Builder is in beta

• Faction data is still being checked. Look over the points and options before you submit a list to an event.
• Cloud Sync and the Unit Library are free during the beta.
• The previous builder is still available for a short while, and you can switch back from your profile menu on the web or the More menu in the app.
