Setting Up Stripe Payments

Old World Rankings uses Stripe to take entry fees when players register. The money goes to your own Stripe account and on to your bank. Stripe holds your identity and bank details securely; OWR never sees them.

Before you start

You will need:

• Government-issued ID for verification.
• Your bank account details (routing and account number, or BSB and account number).
• A tax ID, or the last 4 digits of your SSN in the US.

Check your home region first. Your payout country comes from your home region, and Stripe locks it when the account is created. It cannot be changed later. To check it, open your profile menu, choose Profile Settings, and look on the Profile tab.

Step 1: start from your tournament or your profile

You can start in two places:

• From your tournament: on the Dates & Payment tab, make sure Accept payments via OWR is on and the Amount is above 0. A Set Up Payouts box appears. Click Connect with Stripe.
• From your profile: open Profile Settings and choose the Payments tab. Under Payment Account, click Connect with Stripe. The Payments tab appears once you organise at least one tournament, and only on the website (not in the iPhone app).

Start from the tournament if you can. Your tab changes are saved first, you come back to the same tab when you finish, and you are set as that event's payment recipient automatically.

Step 2: confirm your payout country

A Confirm your payout country box shows the country taken from your home region, with a warning that this is permanent.

• If it is right, click Create account.
• If it is wrong, click Edit home region, fix it, then come back and start again.
• If you see Set your home region first, your profile has no home region yet. Set it, then try again.

You are then taken to Stripe.

Step 3: enter your business details

Stripe asks how you earn money with Old World Rankings. Your account is set up as an individual, so you do not need a registered business.

Industry. Search for "ticketing" and select Event ticketing under Entertainment and recreation.

Website. Either enter your event page address (for example, https://oldworldrankings.com/au/tournaments/your-tournament-slug), or choose to add a product description instead. You can copy and paste this:

I organise tabletop wargaming tournaments for the Old World miniatures game. Players pay entry fees to take part in competitive events, with fees covering venue costs and prize support.

If Stripe asks what you sell, say event tickets or tournament entry fees. For expected amounts, give your typical entry fee (for example, $20 to $50 per player).

Step 4: add your bank account

Enter the bank account Stripe should pay into. Double-check the numbers. Wrong details delay your payouts.

Step 5: verify your identity

Enter your legal name (as it appears on your ID), date of birth, home address and phone number. Stripe needs this by law.

Step 6: review and submit

Stripe shows a summary of everything you entered. Click Edit to fix anything, then click Agree and submit.

Step 7: back in OWR

Stripe sends you back to where you started. You will see one of these messages:

• Stripe account setup complete! You can now receive payments. On the Dates & Payment tab you now see a green Payouts Connected box. You are done.
• Stripe setup in progress. Complete any remaining requirements to receive payments. Stripe still needs something from you. On the tab you will see Complete Stripe Setup; click Continue Setup to finish.

Until payouts are connected, a red Payment setup incomplete banner shows on your dashboard and players cannot register. You can still publish the event, but you will be warned first.

Co-organisers and the payment recipient

Each event pays one Stripe account. If more than one organiser has connected Stripe, choose who receives the money from the Payment recipient: list on the Dates & Payment tab and click Confirm.

• Once a player has paid, the recipient cannot be changed.
• You cannot remove a co-organiser from Staff while they are the payment recipient. Change the recipient first.

Fees and payouts

Each ticket has a ticketing fee that covers Stripe's processing and the OWR service fee. The rate depends on your currency and is shown on the Dates & Payment tab and on Profile Settings > Payments. You choose whether players pay it on top or you absorb it. See Dates & Payment.

Stripe usually transfers money to your bank within 2 to 7 business days. To see payments and payouts, click Manage Stripe Account on Profile Settings > Payments.
