Penalties and Bonuses
Add or remove points from a player's or team's final total once every round is complete, and what that changes for standings and players.
A score adjustment adds or takes away points from one player's or team's final total. Use it for things your scoring setup does not cover: a penalty for slow play or a late list, a bonus for a painting judge's pick, or a points correction you agreed with a player.
When you can add one
Adjustments open up once every round is complete. Until then there are no final standings to adjust. They stay available after you reveal results and after you click Complete Tournament, so you do not have to reopen the event to fix a penalty.
The best time is after the last round and before you click Reveal Results to Players & Battle Board, so the results you reveal are the final ones.
Add a penalty or bonus
- Complete the final round on the Pairings tab.
- Open the standings tab for the player or team (see the list below).
- Click the scales icon at the end of their row (Apply penalty / bonus).
- In Adjust standings, click Add adjustment.
- Type the points in the first box. Use a minus sign for a penalty, for example -3.
- Type a reason, for example "late list". You cannot save without one.
- Check New total at the bottom, then click Save.
You can add several adjustments to the same row, each with its own reason. They are added together.
Which tab to use
- Singles: Standings.
- Doubles: Doubles Standings. The adjustment applies to the pair once.
- Teams: Team Standings to adjust a team, or Individual Standings to adjust one player.
Change or remove an adjustment
- Click the same scales icon on the row.
- Change the points or reason, or click the bin icon next to an adjustment to delete it.
- Click Save.
What it changes
- The final total. When any row has an adjustment, the standings show an Overall column, with a small red (penalty) or green (bonus) chip next to the total. Hover over the chip to see each reason.
- Placings. Standings recalculate as soon as you save, so a penalty can move a player down. Adjustments count whether your official ranking is Best Overall or Best General.
- Rankings. If you have already completed the tournament, ranking points are worked out again from the new placings.
Adjustments never change pairings. The pairing order still uses battle points only.
They only show in the final standings. Pick an earlier round in the round picker and you see the standings as they were after that round, without adjustments.
What players see
Players see the adjusted totals and placings in their final results in the Battle Hub, on the Battle Board when you reveal results, and in the final results once the tournament is complete. The reason you typed only appears on your dashboard. Tell a penalised player why yourself.
If Standings between rounds is on (Setup > Dates & Payment), players can see the change in the Battle Hub as soon as you save, before you reveal results.
