What happens if I have an odd number of players?
How BYEs are given and scored, and how a ringer fills the gap.
In singles, one player gets a BYE each round unless you add a ringer to make the numbers even. In round 1 the BYE goes to a random player, or to the lowest seed if round 1 is seeded. From round 2 it goes to the lowest-ranked player who has not had one yet.
BYEs are scored for you. Set what a BYE is worth under Setup > Scoring > Battle Scoring > BYE Handling:
- Bye tournament points: the points the player gets. The card suggests a value for your scoring template.
- Count a bye as: Win, Draw or Neither.
To give everyone a real game instead, add a ringer on Setup > Staff with Add Ringer. From round 2 the ringer plays the lowest-ranked player who has not faced them yet. The ringer earns no ranking points and is never on the podium. There is one ringer per event, and ringers only play in singles.
In doubles and teams events, an odd number of teams means one team gets the BYE.
